Active Travel Cycle Routes
Active Travel Cycle Routes HPC understand that CYC are continuing to explore links from Wheldrake and Elvington across fields to create a cycle route using lanes southeast of Heslington and through the village, but this will not be in the first tranche of cycle route development owing to the cost of the proposed route. The Sustrans feasibility report of July 2022 recommends a raft of alterations to lanes around Heslington Village and to traffic and parking management within the village. These include reducing road width and a one way system. The Parish Council has raised a number of concerns about this route with CYC, with our Ward Councillor Keith Aspden and with our MP Julian Sturdy as previously reported.
A route yet to be identified in detail between Campus West and Campus East will be actioned in Phase 1 of the Active Travel programme. The Parish Council has already raised concerns about changes to signage and loss of the footway on the west side of Field Lane, leaving only a narrow path on the east side for pedestrians and wheelchair users.
HPC have been in correspondence with CYC officers requesting that Heslington PC be identified as a stakeholder for future consultations concerning Active Travel routes through Heslington Parish.
